Motivation, Choosing the right program, Running
• publicTable of contents
Last week in France for me, I was mainly preparing all I needed for my trip to Asia. I wasn't very motivated to work or to focus on bug bounty.
I also gave up on a private program I loved and I had a running race.
Motivation
For those who think that I'm always motivated to work, or fully disciplined, it's not fully the case. It always depends on multiple parameters and sometimes you just don't want to do anything.
When you work for someone else, you don't really have a choice, you work and that's it.
In my case, if I don't want to work, I don't. The problem is it should not happen all the month otherwise it will be hard to pay the bills.
It's just to say that it's okay to not always work, especially if you are not on it, you will just waste your time. So during this time, I was just chilling, not doing productive stuff, but I know that I will come back soon when I will be in Japan.
I will arrive at the end of the week in Tokyo and have one week alone to just chill and work. Then a friend of mine will come and it will more be a vacation.
But I love working when I'm traveling. Going to a café and working there. Simply cause a lot of other people are working too, so you're not going to watch a YouTube video or do nothing.
The only problem when traveling is that my routine is mainly broken. Especially when I'm not alone, so I will need to face it and do my best to find time for finding bugs.
And even if I don't want to work, it's okay, I have enough to stay there without working.
Finding the right program
I know it's a common problem for a lot of hunters. The rule I tend to use the most is simply to shoot one bug to a program and see how it responds and see if I continue there or not.
The problem I faced previously was that I hunted on a private program I loved. Simply because it was a website I used a lot since I was 10, and already knew it by heart.
The program scope was cool, with a special environment for hunters, and special accounts, everything looks very great.
I pushed some reports to them, and they paid me around 7/8 months later. Which is not possible for me to live with. But if it's the only program, it can be ok, I just have to hunt on something else and I know that I will get the money at the moment.
The real problem I faced was the fact that they never responded to my messages. I tried to give them some advices or problems on the programs, and how to manage them. They never replied. They paid only after asking the support to contact them, without a message.
It's quite sad, because the program is cool, but the people managing them are not. So I quit this program, even if I was the first on the leaderboard. I don't want to spend my time waiting for them when there are better programs that are responsive.
Running
I know that it's more of a hacking-related blog, but it's mostly about my way of living. And since I started running last year it changed a lot of stuff, especially on my hacking skills.
As I told you previously, a lot of things changed for me when I saw that I was able to find critical bugs and get good amounts of bounty. Since that, my average bounty has been higher than before.
It's crazy that it's mainly mental stuff and not totally because of skills. And it's the same in running. When thinking that you can do it, you will.
I had a race last Sunday, I had a plan with a specific pace. I knew that it would be hard because I previously had some knee issues. But I wanted to prove to myself that it was possible. And with the right music, I finished the race with the perfect pace I wanted to achieve.
Running gave me the discipline not only to run but also to work on anything and know that results will come later and not now. And that I just have to continue doing my stuff and the magic will happen later, when you are not waiting to.
I know that this is quite a motivational speech and a lot of people can be skeptical about that, I was before.
In the next weeks, I will probably have less stuff to tell you as I will be on vacation eating sushis and ramen mostly. So I don't know if you prefer to just not push a post or write something but more travel related, tell me what you prefer!
See you then.
